Marengo has recently experienced a population increase from 6,355 residents in 2000 to 7,499 today. Population is up from our 1990 of 4,768 residents. A clear trend has emerged. Marengo is growing.

The City has taken many steps to aid businesses including acquiring a revolving loan fund for access to credit, developing TIF districts to redevelop areas and having an easy to work with building department to get your project off the ground. Marengo enjoys its location as having one of the best access to multi-mode transportation systems in McHenry County. We have two state highways, IL-176 and IL- 23, as well as US Highway 20 which intersect within city limits. Interstate 90, which links Chicago to Rockford, is 7 miles to our south and I-43 and I-39 are less than 30 miles away. In addition, the Union Pacific Rail Road runs within our boarders. Residents of the local area can dial a ride from PACE to take them to local places of work, recreation, family and friends for extremely low fairs. Currently METRA is in a Phase 1 study to extend services into Marengo.
